Province Of Murcia

Murcia is the capital of province of Murcia. It is settled at the coast of Mediterranean sea between Valencia and Andalucia.

The city was founded in the first part of 9th century when it was ruled by the Arabs. Before that there could only be found some settlements from the Roman period of time. Soon after the establishment it became very important because thanks to its location and climate its agriculture was very well developed. Later on in the 13th century it was conquered by the Christians.

In the 18th century the city gained an importance in a wide area because of its well-developed silk production. It became a center of silk industry. Unfortunately, the next century turned out to be a real chaos for Murcia. It experienced looting by French forces, there was an earthquake and floods and the city inhabitants suffered from diseases of cholera and plague. However in the 20th century it developed and gained more and more importance as a city of tourism.

The city has an impressive heritage left from the various periods of time it has gone through. The Cathedral of Murcia, which was built at the end of 14th and at the beginning of 15th century, is one of the best patterns of Renaissance and Baroque of Spain you can find today. You can find the city right in the center of the old city.

It certainly isn’t the only notable building with an impressive ancient architecture you can find in the city though. There is a university of Murcia, which was founded in the 13th century and has survived the passage of time, and many other places that are definitely worth seeing. A place you mustn’t miss while visiting Murcia is the Episcopal Palace, which is also settled in the heart of the city, on the central square of Murcia.

As they are very close to each other, most of the main villa rental spain can be visited in the same day. A nice beginning would be crossing the lovely bridges over the river of Segura. Here you can see a beautiful combination of the modern and the classical style.

Murcia is a great city for those who love long walks in ancient places or sunbathing. It is never cold in this city. Since the area is mountainous and well protected from the winds, the summers are hot, while winters are a little milder. The sun almost never leaves this beautiful old place.
